Dismantling of a theft network in Igualada

Operation against home burglary

On November 16, agents from the Mossos d’Esquadra Investigation Unit carried out an operation that resulted in the arrest of two individuals, aged 29 and 30, involved in a series of robberies in Igualada, in the Anoia region.

The increase in thefts: a worrying pattern

The investigation began in early November, when a significant increase in burglaries was detected in a specific area of the city. Officers observed that criminals were using very elaborate techniques to gain entry to homes.

Methods of operation

The authors used to perform during the afternoons, especially at the beginning of the weekend. They chose buildings with a high density of residents, forcing balcony doors and blocking the entrance with objects found inside.

Selected scenarios

Their choices of places to steal were strategic as they were well connected with expressways, thus facilitating their escape. They operated mainly on holidays and weekends, when the owners were not likely to be at home.

Arrest and evidence

The capture of the suspects took place right after they committed two robberies. At the time of their arrest, officers discovered jewelry, cash and various tools used in their criminal activity, both on them and in their vehicle.

Links to other robberies

Investigators were able to establish connections between those arrested and a total of six robberies, including four that occurred on November 8. In addition, it is suspected that those arrested could be involved in other similar incidents throughout Catalonia.

Asset recovery and judicial monitoring

Some of the stolen items have been recovered and returned to their owners. One of the detainees already had a history of similar crimes. On November 19, they were presented before the Igualada Court on guard duty, while the investigation continues to discover if they are involved in more robberies.
