Educational Integration: a transformative project in Igualada

A year of changes and learning

One year ago, La Veu de l’Anoia and Vocanoia.cat launched an initiative with the aim of making visible the educational plans of the environment (PEE) and the host classrooms in Igualada, focusing on the experience of children arriving from different countries. This project not only aimed to inform, but also to provide a look at the reality of these children in their adaptation process, reflecting their experiences in a context of cultural diversity.

The project in detail

Around fifty students of various nationalities, attending the host classrooms of various local institutes, have participated in a series of activities designed to foster their personal integration and expression.

Practical visits and activities

The students had the opportunity to visit the writing of La Veu de l’Anoia and Vocanoia.cat, where they learned about the functioning of the medium. In addition, during the months of March and April, podcasts were recorded at the Mercader Institute and the Civic Center Space, where students shared their adaptation experiences and the cultural differences they have found.

Visual capsules and reports

The project also included the creation of thematic visual capsules, with short videos that cover topics such as cooking, games and music. In addition, a special section was dedicated to the pages of La Veu and on social networks, where seven children took an active part in sharing their stories.

The importance of educational reception

Educational Environment Plans (PEE) are essential to promote inclusion and equity in education. In Catalonia, strategies are being implemented to integrate students of foreign nationality, who currently represent approximately 15% of students. This percentage has increased constantly, while non -foreign birth rate has decreased.

The role of the host classrooms

The host classrooms play a crucial role in the integration process, providing support adapted to the needs of newcomers. This includes intensive learning of the Catalan language and an atmosphere of emotional reception that facilitates its adaptation to a new environment.

Experts in interculturality and educational support

Professionals such as Meritxell Sánchez, Xavier Gabriel and Carme Solà, of the Elicic Advisory Team Anoia, work to ensure that the teachers have the necessary resources to meet the challenges of a diverse classroom. They provide training and support for social language and cohesion issues, as well as advice on the creation of reception protocols.

A collaborative approach

The project with La Veu de l’Anoia was designed to make visible linguistic diversity and promote interculturality, facilitating the exchange between students of diverse origins and enhancing their integration.

Reflections on the future of integration

Educational integration is a constant challenge in Catalan society today. The creation of cohesive communities and the promotion of the use of Catalan are essential to ensure that new students not only learn the language, but also feel part of the social fabric. At a time when cultural diversity is increasingly present, it is essential to promote an environment of acceptance and respect.

The integration of children and young people is not only an educational matter, but also a social responsibility that appeals to all of us. The way we address this question will determine the future of our society and the cohesion between the different cultures that make it up.
