An environment of dialogue and respect
The Sant Jordi Hall, located at the Palau de la Generalitat, was the scene of a significant event on Tuesday, March 11. On this occasion, President Salvador Illa led a ceremony dedicated to Interconfessional Harmony Week, a program that promotes dialogue between various religious confessions.
An initiative with global vision
This celebration, which dates back to 2010 with the support of the United Nations, is coordinated in Catalonia by the Generalitat, the City Council and the Stable Working Group of Religions (GTER). The main objective is to emphasize the importance of peaceful coexistence and communication between different spiritual traditions.
An innovative model to Catalonia
The GTER, which celebrates two decades of existence, has become an example of a ‘pedagogy of action’. As its members said, this group includes representatives of various religions, including the Catholic Mossèn Antoni Matabosch, and meets monthly to foster a culture of peace.
An open and cozy Catalonia
Mohamed Halhoul, President of the GTER, emphasized that this group represents a unique model in Europe, reflecting the diversity and reception that characterize Catalonia. He emphasized that Catalan language and culture are essential for social cohesion.
Shared values for a better future
During his speeches, both Salvador Illa and Jaume Collboni emphasized the cultural and religious richness of the region. Collboni stated that respect for religious freedom is essential for peaceful coexistence, while Illa referred to the need to build a solid base of shared values.
The importance of fraternity
President Illa spoke about the importance of values such as fraternity, hope and truth, which are essential for personal freedom and development. He made a connection between the act of Interconfessional Harmony Week and the initiative of the sailboat Bel Espoir, which promotes peace among young people from different cultures.
A Cultural and Spiritual event
The ceremony was moderated by the Evangelical Shepherd Ruth Giordano and had the musical performance of the duet Lala Tamar & Ronen, who performed traditional pieces with instruments such as Arabic lute, guitar and voice.
The collaboration between confessions
Maria del Mar Albajar, abbess of the monastery of Sant Benet de Montserrat, called for the collaboration between the different confessions to promote peace in the world. He reflected on the role of religious and monastic life in the care of those empty spaces that need attention and understanding.
