Enhanced security in Tarragona during the holidays: An innovative model

A strategic deployment for public safety

During the Santa Tecla festivities, Tarragona has seen a notable increase in the police presence, with a special focus on the prevention of the possession of white weapons. This decision responds to the desire to guarantee a safe festive atmosphere for all.

Innovations in police control and coordination

Sub-inspector Jordi Colomé, in charge of the operation, has highlighted that more than fifty police units have been mobilized every night. In addition, identification points and random searches have been created to increase public safety. The introduction of a new advanced command center on Carrer Sant Agustí has allowed better coordination between the security forces.

Searches with respect and privacy

Officers conduct searches with an approach that respects the privacy of citizens, selecting suspects based on behaviors detected during patrols. The use of metal detecting paddles has become a key tool in addressing the goal of preventing the possession of white weapons.

Collaboration between units for greater effectiveness

The canine unit of the Urban Guard has been integrated into the operation to help detect illegal substances. Colomé stressed that the priority is not only to avoid the use of weapons, but also to protect the freedom and safety of all those attending the festivities.

Positive safety data

With the second weekend of festivities already underway, the incidents reported have been minimal, with no detection of white weapons. During the operation, around seventy people were identified and searched, with some penalties for drug possession.

A model that makes a difference

The new command center has been an innovative element in the operation, allowing police chiefs to monitor actions in real time and coordinate efficiently with other units. This centralized structure has contributed to greater control of the situation and a faster response to any incident.

A promising future for festive security

Colomé pointed out that this year’s deployment has shown a remarkable deterrent effect, with a decrease in the presence of armed individuals compared to previous years. The collaboration between the security forces and public awareness have been fundamental to achieve safer parties.
