ERC requires accelerating road transfer to Tarragona

Urgency in the implementation of road projects

The ERC representatives in Tarragona have raised an urgent request to the State to launch the road transfer, a commitment that was formalized two years ago with the Ministry of Transport. Senator Laura Castel emphasized the importance of this agreement, saying that improvements in road infrastructure will have a positive impact on the daily life of citizens and on the development of sustainable tourism models in the region.

Commitment to sustainable mobility

Xavier Puig, Deputy Spokesman for the ERC municipal group, has expressed his concern about the slowness of the process and urged the state to accelerate the efforts. “We have worked intensely to secure this agreement, and it is now crucial to materialize,” Puig said, emphasizing that the planned actions will not only improve mobility, but also guarantee the safety of users.

Key projects of the agreement

Among the planned actions are the creation of a bike lane to the east, the extension of the Francolí Bridge and the installation of acoustic screens on the A-7 to minimize the impact of traffic on the neighbors. In future phases, improvements in the N-340A and N-340B roads are expected, as well as the pacification of the T-11 with pedestrian traffic lights and a cyclable walk that connects neighborhoods and promotes active mobility.

Defense of negotiated investments

Puig insisted that Mayor Viñuales must defend the total of the investments agreed by the previous government, rejecting any reduction. “We have agreed that the bike lane has to reach Altafulla, we cannot allow it to be cut,” he added, emphasizing the importance of connecting this infrastructure with Route 8 of the EuroVelo.

Concerns about European funding

Republicans have also expressed their concern about the possible loss of a European grant for these projects, which amounts to 13 million euros. Castel has warned that the deadline for justifying the works was completed in June 2026 and that the lack of progress is worrying. “We have raised several issues in the Senate, and it is vital that we do not miss this funding,” he concluded.

Call to Government Action

The ERC parliamentary group calls for a greater determination to execute the agreed works, emphasizing that a government must fulfill its commitments to improve the lives of citizens. “Tarragona needs these interventions to move towards a more sustainable and safe future,” said Senator Castel.
