The legal defenses of ERC request amnesty for its leaders

The lawyers of Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya (ERC) have begun to submit letters asking for the application of the amnesty law to close the 37 court cases affecting the leaders of the party. After the publication of the law in the Official State Gazette (BOE), ERC lawyers have launched a strategy to speed up the application of the rule.

The leaders of ERC affected by the legal cases

Among the republican leaders who hope to be granted amnesty are names such as Marta Rovira, secretary general of ERC and currently exiled in Switzerland, Ruben Wagensberg, Josep Maria Jové, Lluís Salvadó, Natàlia Garriga, Marta Molina, Oriol Junqueras, Raül Romeva and Dolors Bassa .

The demand for amnesty and the opinions of ERC leaders

ERC lawyers are calling for the amnesty to be implemented immediately, although they acknowledge that judges can put obstacles in the process. Ruben Wagensberg, one of the leaders affected and exiled in Geneva, has affirmed that the amnesty is a cause that highlights the persecution of independence and that they are accused of terrorism to try to slow down the application of the law (https:/ /

The amnesty application process

The amnesty law has been published in the BOE and now the judges in charge of the cases related to the process have a period of two months to decide whether to apply it or not. In case of doubt, they can raise prejudicial questions to European justice. If they do not choose this option, the judges can lift the precautionary measures and international and state arrest warrants.
