The celebration of Europe Day in the Balearic Islands
The Government, through Europe Direct Balearic Islands, the point of information and advice that the Balearic Islands have available to citizens about the European Union, is celebrating Europe Day this Thursday with a series of activities scheduled until next Saturday throughout the Balearic Islands. The aim of this celebration is to bring the role of the European Union closer to society and to encourage participation, reflection and debate.
A program of activities for the whole family
The Europe Day program starts this Thursday in Mallorca, Menorca and Formentera with a range of activities aimed at the whole family. From workshops and storytelling for the little ones in Palma and Sant Francesc Xavier, respectively, to a talk in Maó about the relationship between pop music and Europe.
Institutional act at the Consulate of the Sea
Thursday’s agenda closes in the afternoon solemnly at the Consulate of the Sea with an institutional event. This event will include the performance of the Choir of the Conservatory of Music of the Balearic Islands, which will perform the European anthem, and the raising of the EU flag. The President of the Government of the Balearic Islands, Margalida Prohens, will give a speech to close the event.
Activities in Ibiza and Ciutadella
On Friday, there will be a storytelling activity in Ibiza that will fuse learning and entertainment with the aim of educating, raising awareness and promoting cultural diversity and European cooperation. On Saturday, Europe Day will close with a storytelling workshop in Ciutadella in the morning and a citizen participation activity in Palma throughout the day. This activity in Palma will include educational and entertainment tents with drawing workshops, word games, interactive map of flags and an information point about the opportunities and programs offered by the EU.
Drawing competition ‘Paint Europe’
Parallel to the Europe Day activities, Europe Direct Balearic Islands has organized a drawing competition called ‘Paint Europe’. This competition invites sixth grade primary school students from schools in the Balearic Islands to express their creativity and knowledge about Europe. The winning works will be selected to illustrate the Europe Direct calendar for the year 2025.
