The Decision to Exile to Preserve Freedom
The journalist Jesús Rodríguez has established his residence in Switzerland as part of a research related to terrorism linked to the Tsunami Case. This decision was motivated by the fear of being imprisoned and has been visualized by his support group during a meeting in Sants. Rodríguez, who works for La Directa, left abroad at the end of 2023 to preserve his freedom.
On the other hand, the businessman Josep Campmajó has also opted for exile due to the same case, according to information obtained from TV3’s Els Matins. His link with Tsunami is due to the fact that he has maintained contact with Carles Puigdemont, president in exile, since they both come from Girona.
Reactions to the Decisions to Leave
The activist Oleguer Serra, a member of the Òmnium board, has also announced that he has left abroad and resides in Switzerland, where the deputy Ruben Wagensberg is also on the ERC list on 12 May
The judge of the National Court, Manuel García-Castellón, has required those investigated in the Tsunami Case to provide their home addresses in order to be summoned to testify, through their lawyers. This has been directed at the ten people under investigation at the National Court. In the cases of Rodríguez, Jaume Cabaní Massip and Nicola Flavio Giulio, the judge has asked the Civil Guard to investigate their whereabouts, since they have not appointed any lawyer to take them back.
All this occurs in the context of the supposed approval of the amnesty law in the Congress of Deputies, once the text has passed the procedure in the Senate and returns to Congress for the final vote.
The Reasons for Exile
In an interview with La Directa, Jesús Rodríguez has expressed his concern over the fact that the cause of the Democratic Tsunami has become a recurring theme in the electoral programs of judges Manuel Garcia-Castellón and Manuel Marchena. This situation made him choose to leave as he does not trust the justice that could be offered to him in this case.
The Comunal de Sants was the scene of a press conference in which Jesús Rodríguez participated via video conference. On this occasion, the journalist has described his decision as a difficult and painful choice that separates him from his environment, but which offers him the opportunity to continue the fight. Those attending the event, including members of Omnium Cultural, have shown support for the journalist with a banner.
A support group has been organized in favor of Josep Campmajó after learning of his decision to go into exile. This initiative has materialized through a web page to support him during his absence in Catalonia. The page highlights the active role of Campmajó in Commerce and in various associations of Girona within the framework of the Process.
Exile experiences
In an interview with TV3, Josep Campmajó explained that his decision to go into exile was motivated by the constant surveillance by the police and the fear of being arrested and imprisoned. In addition, he has denied having a prominent role in Tsunami and has expressed disbelief at accusations of leadership in this movement.
Ruben Wagensberg, member of the ERC list, has agreed to exile in Switzerland with Campmajó and Rodríguez. In an interview with RAC1, he highlighted the mutual support they have offered during this stage.
In response to questions about other people wanting to go into exile, Wagensberg said they could not speak for the others involved.
