Expansion of the Public Transport Service in Barcelona for the Sant Joan Festival

Preparations for the Night of Sant Joan

On the occasion of the celebration of the Sant Joan festival, public transport in the Barcelona area is preparing for a special expansion of its services during the night of June 23. The Autoritat del Transport Metropolitana (ATM) of Barcelona has announced that the metro and Tram network will be operational throughout the night, with the incorporation of 12 additional Metro trains that will run from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., with a focus on enhancing L4, the line that reaches the beach.

Expansion of Services

In addition, Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC) will maintain the usual Saturday service, extending until 2:00 a.m., and resuming its normal schedule at 5:00 a.m. on Monday. For its part, Renfe will increase its offer with 10,500 additional seats, reinforcing the capacity of the trains that connect Barcelona with the coastal towns of Garraf, Maresme and Costa Brava during Sunday night and early Monday morning.

Night Transportation

The Nitbus will reinforce specific lines, the Generalitat’s night buses will maintain the same schedule as on Fridays and Saturdays, and the city buses will offer a service according to a holiday, thus guaranteeing the mobility of citizens during the celebration.

Citizen security

Barcelona City Council has also announced special measures to guarantee security during the Sant Joan festival. The Urban Guard will deploy a preventive device to avoid incidents that may affect the security, mobility, coexistence and tranquility of the neighbors. Alcohol and drug controls will be intensified, and mobility restrictions could be implemented to avoid crowds. Likewise, the activation of the drone service by the Civil Protection and the Urban Guard is planned, and the presence of the Barcelona Firefighters will be reinforced, with more than 300 people dedicated to cleaning the beaches and preventing incidents related to unauthorized bonfires.

Fire Surveillance and Prevention

Special attention will be paid to fire prevention, with a focus on areas where bonfires can be made without authorization and in the forest area of ​​the Parc de Collserola. The authorities have initiated inspections at points of sale of pyrotechnic items to verify their compliance with the established requirements, and are actively working to prevent the unauthorized sale of this type of material. During the night of the 23rd to the 24th, the Civil Protection, Prevention, Fire Extinction and Rescue Service will launch a surveillance device that will extend until late into the night, with the Barcelona Firefighters deployed throughout the city and increasing their endowments.
