Exploring feminist voices in music: a necessary debate

An open dialogue on feminism and music

Next Thursday, May 15 at 6.30 pm, the Hippolytus Sarcophagus Room in the Pretori will become the scene of a crucial debate on the intersection between feminism and music. This second day of the pre -tet, within the framework of the Tarraco25 event, will be entitled ‘Without the voices of women, the soundtrack of our history will be incomplete. It’s time to hear all the voices. ‘

The organization and the speakers

This initiative, promoted by the Ministry of Equality, Feminist Policies and LGTBI+ of the City Council of Tarragona, will be moderated by the journalist Montse Virgili. The debate will be attended by prominent figures such as Fátima Mellado, a cultural promoter and a member of the MIM Association; Raquel Bassas Català, President of ARC, and artist Elena Garcia, who will offer a performance at the Teta 2025 festival.

A context of persistent inequalities

Despite progress in recent decades, women are still facing significant inequalities in the world of music. A 2022 study of the Annenberg School of Communication at South California University reveals that only 2% of music producers are women, highlighting the need for more representation and equity in the industry.

A festival that celebrates feminisme

This Thursday’s day is only the second of three to be held this year in the context of the fourth edition of the Teta Festival, which will take place in the gardens and in the Auditorium of Camp de Mars on May 30 and 31. The aim is to create an inclusive space that promotes the participation and celebration of the various voices of feminism.

An innovative cycle of debates

Both days, the first and second, are part of the ‘Teixint Rebellies. Feminism and pride in dialogue through history ‘, organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Heritage. Participation is free, but prior registration is required through a link.

The third pre -tet: a space for reflection

The third and final debate of the pre -teta, entitled ‘Voices and generational responses, building resistors’, will take place on Thursday, May 22 at 6 pm in the Eutyches Room of the Trade Fair and Congress Center in Tarragona. This session will include the participation of figures such as the feminist activist Ana Requena Aguilar, the political scientist Julia Salander, and the lawyer Carla Galeote.

Interested attendees will have to register in advance through a link to ensure their place in this debate that promises to be enriching and inspiring.
