Figueres: Priorities in Investment and Underground Security

Reconsidered Investments

The Figueres City Council has readjusted its investment budget, affecting several projects, including the reinforcement of security in the basement of the Rambla.

This item, initially budgeted at 80,000 euros, has been postponed due to a restructuring of budget applications, which has also impacted other investments.

Affected Investments

Among the items affected by the reduction in investments are the installation of security cameras (from 79,009 to 54,071 euros), the recharging of electric vehicles (from 18,129 to 6,637 euros), the Energy Transition Plan (from 50,000 to 18,759 euros) and the installation of photovoltaic panels (from 200,000 to 50,000 euros).

Concerned Opposition

The budget modification has generated reservations among the opposition, particularly with regard to the Energy Transition Plan and security in the basement of the Rambla.

Pere Casellas (PSC) questioned the decision to suspend the petanque court in the western sector, but supported the investment in security cameras.

Agnès Lladó (ERC) regretted the decrease in investment in the Energy Transition Plan, citing the Casa de la Vila building as an example of unsustainable construction.

Xavier Colomer (CUP) expressed his concern about the energy transition plan and expenses on security cameras.

Pending Underground Security

Despite the suspension of the specific item to reinforce security in the basement of the Rambla, the City Council recognizes the importance of addressing this issue.

The Guàrdia Urbana and Fisersa will continue to supervise access to the covered section of the Galligans stream, where security incidents have been recorded.

Constant discharges

In addition to security, the City Council also faces the problem of constant discharges into the Galligans River.

Periodic cleaning is carried out to remove garbage, debris and other objects that accumulate in the river bed, which represents an environmental danger and in case of rain.

Guided Tours of the Riera

During the Santa Creu Festival, the City Council and Fisersa organize guided tours of the Galligans stream, which runs through the city from west to east.

These visits will take place on Saturday, May 4 in the morning and Sunday, May 5 in the afternoon, with prior reservation at the Tourist Office or on the website visitfigueres.cat.
