Gelida becomes an epicenter of celebrations and solidarity

A memorable day full of activities

The Diada de Santa Llúcia in Gelida has once again demonstrated its strength, attracting a large number of visitors during four days of varied and festive activities. The celebrations began on Thursday 12 December with a musical Vespreig which, despite the rain, was a resounding success, thanks to its relocation to the Casal. The music and festive atmosphere kept the spirits high among the attendees.

Tradition and culture in every corner

That same day, Espai 1880 witnessed the inauguration of the exhibition ‘With the Eyes of a Potter’, which honored the creations of Mercè Rius, as well as the ceramic dishes that complement this deeply rooted festival. At the Cultural Center, attendees were able to enjoy the Santa Llúcia concert by the EMMG, which added a musical touch to the day.

The big day: traditions that unite

Friday, December 13th was the most anticipated day, with the lighting of bonfires at Cal Terra, an emblematic place for the making of escudella. The XXXIV Craftsmen’s Fair and Exhibition of Entities filled the streets of Gelida with around eighty stalls, traditional music and giant wooden games, creating a vibrant atmosphere that captivated both locals and visitors.

A highlight of unity

The Parade, with the participation of the Cobla Catània, the Nans and the Grallers de Gelida, led the authorities to the parish church, where a solemn ceremony was held in honor of Santa Llúcia. The most emotional moment was the distribution of the escudella in the Church Square, where about 2000 portions were served, symbolizing the brotherhood and solidarity that characterize this festival.

Innovation in celebration

One of the highlights of this year was the presence of the gastronomic influencer @esmorzarsdeforquilla.cat, who live-streamed the key moments of the party. This initiative resulted in over 30,000 views on social media, expanding the reach of the Diada beyond Gelida.

A fire show

The afternoon was marked by the performance of the Diables de Gelida, who, despite a slight delay due to inclement weather, offered a fire show that fascinated all attendees, culminating in the celebration of Llúciafoc 2024.

A weekend full of solidarity

Saturday, December 14th was dedicated to family activities, with a parade and a concert by the Rossellana Philharmonic Musical Association in honor of Salvador Surià. The day concluded with jazz by Manuel Vallribera and the traditional Pilars d’Ofrena dels Vailets de Gelida.

Solidarity as the protagonist

Sunday 15th focused on solidarity, with a dance show and rhythmic activities by the Sports Board, which raised funds for TV3’s La Marató. In addition, the Solidarity Tournament at the Sports Hall collected toys for the Red Cross, managing to raise 125.22 euros. The Donant la Nota Concert put the finishing touch to four memorable days, raising 560 euros for the charitable cause.
