Girona, a festival of flowers and colors

A celebration full of life

From May 11 to 19, Girona will be transformed into a show of flowers and colors with the celebration of the 69th edition of “Girona, Temps de Flors”. This festival, which has 137 floral projects spread over 109 spaces, is one of the most important in the city and attracts visitors from all over.

This year, the show expands to sixteen neighborhoods of the city, offering visitors the opportunity to discover new spaces full of floral beauty. Highlights include the Gothic courtyard of Casa Solterra, which is located on Camí de la Reina Ermessenda, the vaults of La Rambla, Carrer de l’Argenteria, the Casino de Girona garden and the Casa de les Arts from Mas Ramada. In addition, new places such as Casa Cúndaro, Torre Gironella, Palau de Caramany and the church of Sant Martí Sacosta are reopened, which allow floral projects to be distributed throughout the city and avoid concentration around the Cathedral .

A fusion of culture and nature

This year, popular culture plays a special role in “Girona, Temps de Flors”. Several floral projects will be dedicated to this theme, such as the Magnòlies patio, Plaça del Vi, Casa Solterra, the Rellotge roundabout and Carrer de l’Argenteria. In addition, on the path of Queen Ermessenda, parallel to the Galligants river, you can visit an exhibition on weeds, highlighting these forgotten plants. There will also be projects that promote social inclusion on Ramon Folch Avenue, showing that the flower festival is for everyone.

A commitment to sustainability

Given the current drought situation, the Girona City Council and the festival organization have taken several measures to guarantee the sustainability of the event. Preference has been given to flowers and plants that require less water for their maintenance, prioritizing native species adapted to dry climates. In addition, the use of dried and preserved flowers has been promoted, which are durable and low-maintenance, but equally beautiful in different shapes and textures. During the flower exhibition, it will not be watered, except on the day of assembly, using water collected from the rain. Exhibitors have also been provided with a special floral sponge to maintain the necessary moisture of the flowers throughout the duration of the event.

A party organized by the community

“Girona, Temps de Flors” is a party with the active participation of Girona society. Hundreds of volunteers work selflessly to make this flower show possible, with the support of the associations that have organized it since its inception, such as the Associació Amics de la Girona Antiga and the Associació Amics de les Flors de Girona, as well as the city council. It is an event that demonstrates the strength of the community and its ability to create and share beauty.
