All ready for the big day
This Sunday, May 5, the Language Day will be celebrated in Palma organized by the Obra Cultura Balearic (OCB) and with the support of various organizations of the civil society of Mallorca. The main objective of this day is to promote and defend the Catalan language.
A clamor for ‘Yes in the language!’
The OCB has called for everyone to join the celebration and flood the center of Palma with the message of ‘Yes to the language!’. According to the organization, this day is an opportunity to demonstrate love and respect for the Catalan language, facing the hatred that some people profess to it.
A thermometer of social mobilization
The Language Day, which will take place in the Plaça Major de Ciutat, will be a good indicator of social mobilization in Mallorca against the extreme political right. The organization expects a large participation and considers that this day will be a thermometer to measure society’s response to the current political context.
Program of activities
The Day’s activities will begin at 5:00 p.m. with a popular dance by Magranes. Then, the Correllengua will travel down Carrer Aragó to Plaça Major, where the central event of the day will take place at 6:00 p.m. The celebration will end at 7:00 p.m. with another ballad, this time with Música Nostra.
Great anticipation for the Day
Thousands of people are expected to fill the center of Palma this Sunday to participate in Language Day. The organizing body, Obra Cultura Balear, expects a great turnout and a great response from Mallorcan society in defense of the Catalan language.
