A project that illuminates the future of the club
Hansi Flick’s new approach has transformed the image of FC Barcelona. Enthusiasm and faith have once again permeated the atmosphere of the club, and this perception is also shared among players worldwide. After international competitions and with a view to possible new signings, the outlook for the following season looks very promising compared to the current one. Manchester City are particularly affected by this renewed energy, as one of their key players has his sights set only on the Catalan team.
João Cancelo and his Blaugrana destiny
Unless something unexpected happens, João Cancelo will continue wearing the colors of FC Barcelona for another year. Jorge Mendes, Cancelo’s agent, and the club are in full negotiations to secure a definitive contract that separates the player from Manchester City. There is talk of a transfer for one year with a mandatory purchase option if certain conditions are met.
A perfect relationship between the player and the club
Cancelo had received offers from several top clubs, but he decided to ignore them. After one season with the Blaugrana, he was not considering the idea of playing for another team. Although Manchester City wanted to sell him for a profit, Cancelo’s refusal and Barça’s financial difficulties forced them to accept the loan.
From the beginning, Joan Laporta was clear that Cancelo was the best option to reinforce the right back. Despite an up-and-down season, in which he combined brilliant performances and mistakes, both the board of directors and Flick believe that his return will be beneficial. The board and the coach consider him one of the best in his position.
No big income for Manchester City
Pep Guardiola has tried to sell Cancelo for a sum close to 20 million euros, and clubs like Juventus were willing to pay. However, Cancelo showed no interest in negotiating with them. Currently, the full-back is on vacation after his participation in the Euro Cup with Portugal, where he started under the direction of Roberto Martínez. The objective of both clubs is for Cancelo to join Barça’s preseason directly, without having to return to Manchester.
The loan will include a purchase option next summer, for a figure less than the 20 million that the English club wanted. Cancelo will reduce his salary to help Barça financially, and has stated that he is very comfortable in Barcelona and his priority is to stay as long as possible.
