Priorities of the Hungarian presidency

Hungary has identified several priorities for its term as EU President. These include:

Competitiveness

Hungary wants to adapt new European directives to boost economic development, the internal market, small and medium-sized enterprises, and promote the green and digital transition.

Defending

The country wants to focus on the industrial and technological base for European defense to ensure the security and capacity of action of the 27 member states.

Enlargement of the EU

Hungary defends the entry of the countries of the Western Balkans into the EU, but lowers expectations in the case of Ukraine and Moldova.

Migration management

Budapest highlights the importance of cooperation with border countries and key countries of origin and transit to address migratory pressure and find appropriate solutions.

Cohesion policy

Hungary wants to work on policies that promote cohesion between EU member states.

The officiality of Catalan

As for the officiality of Catalan, the Hungarian government has no plans to put this issue back on the European agenda at this time. However, it does not close the door to reopening the debate in the future.
