Yesterday, José Crespín, the Deputy Government Delegate in Lleida, paid a visit to the Provincial Police Station of the National Police, where he discovered the characteristics of the new digital ID. The Council of Ministers approved a real decree last Tuesday, which first laid the rules for the digital DNI expedition. This innovation, promoted by the Ministry of the Interior and executed by the National Police, is part of the Digital Identity Plan, in collaboration with the National Currency and Timbre Factory.
Midni app functionality
Access to the new digital DNI is made through the Midni application. Once installed, users may generate a QR code sealed by the National Police, which will guarantee the authenticity of the information in real time. This technology is designed to prevent manipulations or fakes.
Practical uses of digital DNI
In its initial phase, the digital DNI will allow users to identify themselves in a variety of situations that require face-to-face accreditation. This includes access to public and private spaces, the signing of documents before notaries, the identification in administrative procedures, as well as the registration in hotels and vehicle rentals.
