Igualada Celebrates a Magical Anniversary: 130 Years of Kings

A Friday Full of Tradition and Celebration

The Igualada Town Hall square will become a magical meeting point this Friday, December 20. Citizens will gather to experience the Crida dels Reis, an event that commemorates 130 years of the Three Kings Festival in the city, just before enjoying the Carousel with local choirs.

The Reappearance of Historical Figures

In an exciting revival, the Nuncio and the Heralds will once again be the protagonists of this festival. These figures, who had disappeared during the 1960s, will be presented again to coincide with this significant anniversary. The Nuncio, who will be played by journalist Montse Sanou, will take on the role of announcing the festival, accompanied by the heralds Marc Galtés and Marina Centellas.

Inauguration Ceremony at the City Hall

The presentation of these emblematic figures will take place at Igualada Town Hall shortly before 7:30 p.m. Mayor Marc Castells i Berzosa will hand a scroll to the Nuncio, giving him the responsibility of announcing the arrival of Their Majesties to the little ones in the city.

An Unexpected Audiovisual Spectacle

After the ceremony, the Nuncio, together with the heralds, will go out to the balcony of the Town Hall to read the Call. This moment will be accompanied by a spectacular audiovisual show, which will not only be enjoyed live, but will also be available during the weekend evenings.

Christmas Song: A Musical To the Feast

To close the celebration, the Christmas Carol Singing will take center stage, led by the Igualada Gospel Choir, which is celebrating its fifth anniversary. This activity will feature the participation of several choirs, including the Agrupació Coral La Llàntia and the Cor Gòspel de Xauxa, which will bring a festive and welcoming atmosphere to the square.

A Diverse Coral Fabric

The voices of the choirs of Igualada, such as the Cor d’Homes d’Igualada and the Coral Juvenil Xalest, will join forces to offer a memorable performance that will resonate in the hearts of those attending, reaffirming the importance of music in Christmas traditions.

Reflections on Cultural Legacy

As Igualada prepares for this celebration, it becomes clear that the Feast of the Three Kings is more than a tradition: it is a cultural legacy that unites generations. The recovery of the Nuncio and the Heralds symbolizes not only a reunion with history, but also a commitment to the future of this much-loved event.
