Igualada promotes new housing initiatives and urban revitalization

A firm housing and revitalization bet

The City Council of Igualada has intensified its efforts to promote accessibility to housing and revitalize the urban environment. Carlota Carner, the councilor in charge of this area, has announced the launch of three prominent calls this March, with registration deadlines that will extend until June 30, 2025.

Aid to rehabilitate empty homes

First, the City Council has opened a new line of subsidies that can reach up to 20,000 euros to rehabilitate empty homes. This aid is granted on the condition that the rehabilitated properties will be used for an affordable rent for a period of five years. Carner emphasized that the aid could cover up to 100% of the rehabilitation costs, including VAT, and that a 30% advance is expected to facilitate the start of work.

The councilor said that “this initiative has been essential to revitalize the rental market, with an investment that has exceeded 500,000 euros and has allowed to rehabilitate thirty properties that were in disuse”.

Urban farmhouse: a solution for young people

Another of the relevant projects is the urban farmhouse, designed to facilitate access to housing to young people between the ages of 18 and 35. This initiative offers up to 15,000 euros for housing and 5,000 euros for the rehabilitation of common spaces, encouraging the rehabilitation of disused properties.

Carner said that “two floors have already been rehabilitated through this formula, which unites owners with inactive and young real estate ready to make the necessary investments”. The homes in question require minor reforms and provide small rent to farmers who are involved in improvements.

Improvement of facades: a step to a safer environment

On the other hand, the councilor emphasized the grant for the improvement of the facades, which seeks dual objective: to protect the urban landscape and guarantee the safety of the buildings that they give to the public road. This initiative is part of a larger strategy of the local government to improve the housing stock and preserve the aesthetics of the city.

A firm commitment to urban revitalization

With these measures, the City Council of Igualada reaffirms its commitment to the rehabilitation of homes and the improvement of the quality of life of its citizens. These efforts not only seek to revitalize the urban fabric, but also to expand an affordable rental market, consolidating Igualada as a model of renewal and social inclusion.
