Modifications in the ORA Ordinance
Sóller City Council is preparing a review of the regulated parking ordinance (ORA) that will come into force in the near future. This review will involve significant changes in parking spaces in the blue zone, affecting both residents and visitors.
Key Changes
The new regulated parking ordinance in Sóller will include three important changes. First, the application of ORA during lunchtimes and Sundays will be established, a significant innovation that residents and visitors will have to deal with. Secondly, people over 65 in the Valley will receive special discounts on their parking cards. Finally, visitor rates will be adjusted, which will be higher than those for residents.
Councilor’s statements
Carlos Darder, councilor for Infrastructure and Public Roads and responsible for Sóller 2010, the entity in charge of managing payment in the blue zone, has confirmed that they are working on the drafting of this new regulated parking ordinance. It is planned that these measures will come into force at the beginning of July, after being approved by the Municipal Assembly.
Impact on the Application of the ORA
This revision implies a significant change in the application of the ORA in Sóller, since it will be made mandatory during noon and Sundays, a practice that until now was not necessary. In addition, the possible implementation of ORA on Saturday afternoons is still being studied.
Reasons Behind the Changes
These changes have been driven in part by the demands of the SOS Residents platform, which has expressed the need to increase parking options in the municipality. The main aim is to improve the rotation of car parks in the Valley, especially on Sundays, in order to ensure that both residents and visitors have more opportunities to find available parking spaces.
Other Adjustments
In addition to the changes related to the application of the ORA, the new ordinance will also include adjustments to discounts for people over 65 years of age and to visitor fees. These adjustments have been justified by the recent increase in management costs, which has required an adjustment in visitor fees.
