Improvement of Public Transport Services at Figueres-Vilafant Station

Need to Improve Mobility

The need to optimize public transport services from the high-speed train station (TAV) Figueres-Vilafant has emerged as a prominent issue in the last municipal meeting of this locality.

During the session, the councilor of the Popular Party, Àngela Domènech, highlighted the difficulties faced by several users of the TAV, especially those who arrive at night and cannot find a taxi service available to travel to their destination.

The mayor, Jordi Masquef, in response to this question, assured that he was committed to addressing this situation with the collective of taxi drivers to find a suitable solution.

In addition, the existence of problems in the bus service that connects to the station was also recognized, a concern raised by the municipal government itself.

The Popular Party illustrated the problem with the case of a person who could arrive from Paris and be left without a taxi option at the station, underlining the importance of finding a solution given the relevance of the station as entry point to the city.

With regard to the bus service, it was highlighted that the route does not always match the needs of the users, an issue that requires special attention from the relevant authorities.

Commitment to Improving Public Transport

The government team pledged to take concrete measures to improve the situation. Firstly, the issue will be addressed with Tranports de la Generalitat to assess the availability of more buses connecting to the station.

On the other hand, an open dialogue will be maintained with the taxi drivers’ union to ensure that service is always available for users of the AVE station.

Review of the Sense of Carrer Fages de Climent

In addition to concerns related to public transport, the question of the direction of traffic on Calle Fages de Climent was also debated.

The councilor of Esquerra Republicana, Xavier Amiel, put on the table the question of the change of direction, which had been implemented two years ago, but which was now being questioned.

This change, according to Amiel, had been adopted following the advice of municipal technicians and the Urban Guard, with the aim of improving road safety.

However, other members of the city council, such as the PSC, were surprised by this change, highlighting the need to take into consideration the opinions of the neighborhood.

The Councilor for Mobility, Núria Bartrolich, defended the decision to review the direction of the street, arguing that it was necessary to improve circulation, especially in relation to the current works on Via Emporitana.

In this sense, Mayor Masquef assured that no change would be adopted without the validation of the experts, assuring that the final decision would be applied once it was approved by the competent technicians.
