Improving road safety: new mobile and section radars

The General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) works to reduce traffic accidents

The General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) is committed to improving road safety and reducing traffic accidents. With this aim, new measures and tools have been introduced to punish behavior that endangers other drivers.

The new mobile and track radars

One of the measures that have been implemented is the installation of 90 new mobile radars on interurban roads. These radars will be placed at points where there are works and will have a distinctive feature. In addition, section radars have been introduced, which measure the speed in a specific area of the road. In this section, drivers must drive below the permitted limit to avoid penalties or fines.

Reduced speed in some parts of the roads

One of the most important novelties is the reduction of speed in some parts of the roads to 60 km/h, half of the generic speed allowed on motorways and motorways. This measure seeks to guarantee safety in areas where there are works and the road is not in the best conditions.

Prior signaling and penalties

The new speed cameras will be marked in advance with a large sign so that all drivers are aware of them. In addition, it must be remembered that failure to comply with the speed limits can result in financial penalties ranging from 100 to 600 euros, as well as the withdrawal of points from the driver’s license.

Commitment to road safety

The DGT is committed to ensuring road safety and putting an end to behavior that endangers the lives of drivers and workers who are carrying out the works. It is important that all drivers follow the signs and take extreme precautions in areas where there are works.
