Increase in Traffic Controls and Road Safety

Road Safety Measures

With the aim of guaranteeing road safety and protecting the integrity of citizens, a reinforcement of road controls has been announced. The General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) has announced that more ‘macrocontrols’ will be carried out by the Civil Guard, with the aim of monitoring the speed of vehicles in more detail and carrying out more breathalyzer tests on drivers. These big police officer operations will have the ability to block the road and force all the vehicles to stop. In addition, inspections and inquiries will be carried out on vehicles, with the collaboration of dogs trained to search for and seize narcotic substances.

Exceptions to Records

The agents have the power to stop any vehicle and carry out the checks they deem necessary. However, there are exceptions, and some cars may require court authorization to receive registrations. This exception affects caravans and motorhomes that act as housing, either temporarily or permanently, according to the Official Bulletin of the Legal Institute of Police Studies (IJESPOL).

Home Protection

The Spanish Constitution establishes that the domicile is inviolable and that no entry or registration may be made there without the owner’s consent or a judicial decision, except in the case of a flagrant crime. However, if the officers have suspicions of possible criminal activities in these vehicles, they can detain the occupants and request an urgent court order.

Improvement of Road Safety

With the increase in controls and the arrival of large police deployments, the DGT seeks to reduce the number of accidents and strengthen road safety. In addition to the new radars and the new measures to increase protection in detentions or under bad weather conditions, these operations show the commitment of the security forces and the DGT to avoid reckless behavior.

Conclusion

Although some caravans are exempt from these inspections, these actions are clearly aimed at improving road safety, although they may be annoying to some drivers. The DGT seeks to guarantee the protection of citizens and prevent risky situations on the roads.
