Innovative actions for waste management in the city

Environmental awareness -raising and awareness initiatives

In recent weeks, the city has launched a new initiative to improve waste management in its historic center. This action, which has been carried out by the Environment Unit of the Urban Guard (UMA) and the cleaning department, includes a series of informative and sanctioning measures, with the collaboration of three agents dedicated to the supervision of compliance with the regulations.

Campaign Objectives and Results

The Minister of Cleaning, Sonia Orts, emphasized that the purpose of this campaign is to combat incivism and control unauthorized discharges. To date, about a hundred offenders have been identified, with a total of 40 files open for breaches of article 95.1 of the Citizen Coexistence Ordinance, which prohibits leaving garbage bags outside the established places and times.

Sanctions and regulations

The imposed sanctions range around 100 euros, and can be increased based on the amount and volume of the waste deposited. In addition, six additional sanctions for unpaid dogs and non -collected stools have been recorded, emphasizing the importance of maintaining order in public spaces.

Improvements in waste signage and collection

First, newsletters have begun to be placed in critical points of the city, such as the streets Civaderia and Riudecols, to warn about the ban on garbage. These measures are complemented by a structured collection service, which includes containers of five fractions in various locations, such as Plaça de l’Oli and Puig d’en Pallars Street.

Collection adapted for all needs

In addition, moving bins that are installed daily at 7pm at 17 points in the upper part have been implemented, adapting to the needs of residents, especially large or with reduced mobility. These bins withdraw at 10pm, guaranteeing efficient waste management.

Specialized Tourism approach

The City Council has also decided to focus on the owners of tourist apartments, as cases of incivility have been detected among tourists, many of whom are unaware of the regulations on the correct disposition of garbage. This action seeks to educate and inform to guarantee a harmonious coexistence between residents and visitors.

Sustainable future for the city

With these measures, the city not only seeks to improve cleaning and order, but also to foster a culture of respect for the environment. Citizen collaboration is essential for a cleaner and sustainable future for all.
