A new path for professional training
Reus City Council has started a significant collaboration with the Institute of Horticulture and Gardening, allowing students to access various green spaces in the city to carry out their training practices. This initiative, promoted by the councilor of Via Pública, Daniel Marcos Cruz, and the director of the institute, Raimon Martí, seeks to enrich the educational experience of the students, providing them with practical training in real environments.
Benefits for the community and education
Sandra Guaita, mayoress of Reus, has highlighted the importance of this alliance, stating that the City Council is committed to the creation of a truly sustainable urban environment and to the training of a new generation of qualified professionals. “The agreement not only improves the city’s green areas, but also promotes the professional development of our young people,” declared Guaita.
Practical activities within the agreement
Students will be able to participate in a wide range of activities, including the care of gardens and parks, the maintenance of trees and the weeding of green spaces. This practical approach will not only allow them to acquire theoretical knowledge, but will also prepare them to face the challenges of the working world in the agricultural sector.
Details of the agreement
The agreement establishes that the practices will be carried out in green areas managed by the Municipal Brigades that are not subject to current maintenance contracts. This will ensure that students work in spaces that require attention, while respecting the regular operation of municipal services.
The Institute of Horticulture and Gardening: pioneer in integrated training
Considered the first integrated professional training center in the city, the Horticulture and Gardening Institute of Reus seeks to train competent professionals in the agricultural sector, a key area for the local economy. Its educational model, which covers from initial training to continuous training, is one of the first in Catalonia and is aligned with the needs of the labor market.
Awards for excellence in landscaping
The city of Reus has recently been recognized with four flowers of honor in the Vilas Florides competition, which rewards initiatives to improve public spaces. This award reflects the city’s continued effort to transform its green spaces and promote a positive civic and tourist image.
A green future for Reus
The collaboration between the City Council and the Institute of Horticulture and Gardening not only represents an opportunity for students, but is also a step towards a greener and more sustainable future for the city. As the program progresses, these initiatives are expected to multiply, benefiting both students and the wider community.
