Intellectual arrival: The Library of Pere Lluís Source is integrated to IREL

A new chapter for the history of Catalan thinking

Recently, the philosopher and theologian Pere Lluís Font, accompanied by the bishop of Lleida, Salvador Giménez Valls, has formalized a significant agreement for the preservation of his academic legacy. His library and personal archive, which have been recognized with the Catalan Letters Honor Award, will be incorporated into the collection of the Institute for Religious Research and Studies in Lleida (IREL).

A literary treasure of 4,000 volumes

The Font collection, which covers approximately 4,000 volumes, focuses on philosophy and theology, disciplines that have marked their career and academic career. In addition, it includes unique works of the 17th and 18th centuries, which represent a valuable contribution to the Catalan cultural heritage.

A planned donation process

The donation agreement, which has been being developed since the end of 2024, provides that the Pere Lluís Font library will move to the facilities of IREL in a period of three months. In addition, the personal archive of the intellectual, which contains publications, correspondence and interviews, will also be transferred to Lleida, once transferred.

Commitment to digital preservation

The bishopric of Lleida has assumed the responsibility of digitizing this valuable fund, in collaboration with the University of Lleida (UdL), with the aim of preserving it and facilitating access for future generations of scholars and researchers.

An impressive educational legacy

Pere Lluís Font, originally from Pujalt (Pallars Sobirà) and born in 1934, is a renowned philosopher and theologian with a prominent academic career. He obtained his education at the University of Toulouse and has been a professor at institutions such as the University of Barcelona (UB) and the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) until his retirement in 2004.

A pioneer in Catalan thought

As a co -founder of the Catalan Society of Philosophy (1980) and an advisor to the Gran Enciclopèdia Catalana, Font has been a key figure in the edition and dissemination of philosophical thought in Catalonia. His work includes more than a hundred publications on modern philosophy, history of Catalan thought and philosophy of religion.

Recognitions and distinctions

His contribution to the academic world has been recognized with several distinctions, including Dr. Honoris Causa by the UdL (2005) and the Creu de Sant Jordi (2005). He has recently received the Catalan Literature Honor Award, a testament to its impact on the culture and intellectuality of the country.
