KANPAI OPERATION: A new crime approach in Barcelona

A morning of reinforced security in La Sagrera

At 10 am, the Sagrera metro station becomes a security fort. The presence of Mossos d’Esquadra and private watchmen marks the beginning of an operation with strict measures, where a control cord has been established in the lobby. In a short time, agents have identified several people with a background, seized a knife and intervened illegal substances.

An unprecedented coordinated deployment

The first day of the Kanpai Plan was marked by a simultaneous deployment of a thousand agents throughout the metropolitan area of Barcelona. This action includes Catalan police, the National Police Corps, and local security forces in cities such as Hospitalet de Llobregat and Badalona. The controls are extended through various metro stations, bus stops and the airport, covering key spaces in the region.

Strategy focused on prevention

Rafa Tello, intendant of the Mossos d’Esquadra, emphasized the intention of this operation: ‘We want to occupy the space and increase citizen security’. He further added that the goal is to make a more complicated life for criminals operating in the area. Eugeni Tarjuelo, Deputy Inspector of Citizen Security, mentioned the familiarity they have with the multi -incidents, recognizing that ‘they know us and we’.

Additional Mobility and Leisure Controls

The controls are not limited to the metro station. Surveillance measures have also been established, vehicles that are often used by criminals to escape. According to Tello, ‘many of these individuals use scooters to flee quickly’. In addition, searches are being made in premises that have been identified as meeting points for illegal activities, with special attention to nightlife establishments, which will also be the subject of interventions over the weekend.

Collaboration and specialization in security

The Kanpai Plan incorporates teams such as the ARRO and the BRIMO for a more effective citizen security task. Agents of the Regional Urban Crime Group (FURA) will continue to be a key element in this operation, adapting their techniques to identify and act more precisely in the face of criminals.

A safer future for Barcelona

With the Kanpai Plan, Barcelona seeks to transform its security image, prioritizing the prevention and detection of crimes. This innovative approach not only aims to reduce crime, but also restore citizen confidence in the authorities. As this operation progresses, it will be able to evaluate its effectiveness and make the necessary adjustments to guarantee a safer city for all.
