L’Escala requests an Environmental Education Plan from the Generalitat

L’Escala calls for an Environmental Education Plan to improve educational success

In the plenary session of March, l’Escala City Council approved the request to the Department of Education of the Generalitat for the creation of an Environmental Education Plan (EEP) in the municipality. This plan aims to act as an umbrella for the actions that are already being carried out and those that may be created in the future to promote educational success in the town.

Better funding and improved educational success

The Councilor for Education, Maite Cortés, emphasizes that an Environmental Education Plan would promote better financing of educational needs and improve educational success for all students. In addition, it would promote coexistence and social cohesion in the municipality. The implementation of this plan is necessary in view of the readiness of all educational centers, associations and the institution itself, creating links and work synergies to eradicate the shortcomings and needs that the municipal educational community claims.

Actions already underway

L’Escala has already launched several actions to improve education in the municipality. One of these actions is the Shared Schooling Unit (UEC), which has been started in the municipality since February this year. This unit allows schools to receive a subsidy from the City Council for families with financial difficulties, so that children can participate in activities outside the center. In exchange, the families carry out small activities at the centre, such as gardening, painting or adapting furniture.

Other agreements approved

In addition to the application for the Environmental Education Plan, the March meeting of the l’Escala City Council also approved the basis for subsidies for the l’Escala Carnival and a motion agreed between all the municipal groups on the alignment of municipal actions with the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda, among other points.
