L’Hospitalet and her blogger scene: A real voice

The Blogosphere Force in The Hospitalet

Hospitalet de Llobregat, despite being the second largest city in Catalonia, does not stand out for the number of blogs dedicated exclusively to its history and culture. However, the few who exist show an admirable influence and commitment among their readers, with a faithful audience that follows them with interest.

A dialogue between heritage passionate

The Can Sumarro Library recently hosted an event that brought together prominent local bloggers to discuss the importance of blogs in the dissemination of historical heritage. Moderated by Josep Calvis, the event celebrated the 20th anniversary of the blog ‘Memento Mori’, created by the writer Ireneu Castillo, who shared his vision on the passion that drives bloggers to write.

Among the participants, Manuel Domínguez, historian and teacher, contributed his perspective as the author of the blog ‘Localmundial’. Also involved M. Ángeles García-Carpintero, a pedagogue with several books and blogs focused on the Bellvitge district. Gerard Lara, a young disseminator of local heritage, exposed how social networks are an effective channel to connect with the new generation.

Topics that captivate attention

One of the most relevant questions among bloggers is what themes resonate with their audience. Participants agreed that articles touching emotional topics and personal memories are often the ones that attract the most readers. Lara emphasized that it is vital that the contents are relevant to the neighbors and to generate a sense of community.

Examples of exceptional content

Dominguez mentioned an article on the Llobregat lighthouse, a symbol of the city’s maritime past, which was one of the most read in his blog. Castillo, meanwhile, recalled the impact of an entry on the Campsa lid at the Casino del Center, which generated great interest and comments.

Adaptation to new trends

Despite the challenge of social media, which often prioritize visual and brief content, bloggers are not discouraged. Castillo observed that blogs can be a valuable resource for those interested in history, although it may be difficult to reach a younger audience. García-Carpintero emphasized the importance of rescuing voices of forgotten women and stories, giving a new dimension to their writings.

A promising future for local history

With the aim of documenting the history of Hospitalet, bloggers maintain their mission intact, regardless of the length of their articles. Dominguez concluded that the most important thing is to leave a legacy for future generations of researchers, who will be able to explore the city’s heritage through their writings.
