Lleida: A Journey Towards Food Excellence

A Strategic Meeting for the Agrifood Future

The city of Lleida is preparing to host an innovative summit during the autumn, with the aim of highlighting its potential in the cultivation of fruit and vegetables. This event will bring together producers, plant managers and cooperatives, as well as other key players in the sector, to encourage collaboration and knowledge sharing.

Visit to Sanui Fruits: An Example of Quality

The mayor Fèlix Larrosa has made a visit to the facilities of the central Sanui Fruits, located in L’Horta de Lleida. This visit has allowed the head father to learn first-hand the situation of the harvest campaign, which currently focuses on the Conference pear, an emblematic product of the Pera de Lleida designation of origin.

Quality over Quantity

Although production expectations for this year indicate a reduction of between 30 and 50%, Larrosa emphasized that the quality of the products remains exceptional. “The key to our success lies in focusing on excellence and the needs of the market,” he said.

Promoting the Fruit and Vegetable Capital

During his visit, the mayor announced the creation of a summit that will seek to consolidate Lleida as a fruit and vegetable capital. “We have a diverse and quality production, with special attention to the Lleida Pear. It is essential that we work together with the sector to show our pride and recover our regional and European prestige,” he declared.

Collaboration with Experts and Institutions

Larrosa has stressed the importance of collaborating with sector experts and academic institutions to position Lleida on the agri-food map. “We need to build on our ecosystem, which includes a science park and technology platforms, to move towards a promising future,” he added.

Synergies with the Restoration Sector

One of the aspects that is to be promoted is the integration of local fruit in gastronomy and catering. Collaborating with the hospitality sector, Lleida seeks to increase the visibility of its products in restaurants and gastronomic establishments, thus generating greater added value for local producers.

A Future Full of Expectations

With the support of the new Government of the Generalitat and the involvement of the Minister of Agriculture, Lleida is determined to continue advancing in its agri-food strategy. The fall summit promises to be a significant step toward a future where the city can proudly claim its agricultural wealth and commitment to quality.
