A week full of tourist activities
As the Councilor for Tourism, Lorena Zamorano, says, “there are always things to do in Alcoy”, and this is demonstrated in this coming week, where the tourist offer is expanded thanks to two events: the European Week of Significant Cemeteries and World Modernism Day.
European Week of Significant Cemeteries
From May 31 to June 2, the Alcoi Cemetery will host a large number of guided tours, where participants will have the opportunity to learn about the history and anecdotes of this artistically rich space. The tours will be led by local guides, some of whom will perform theatrical performances. Lorena Zamorano highlights the quality of local tour guides and invites both visitors and residents of Alcoy to participate in this unique experience. According to Zamorano, these tours are an opportunity to learn about the cemetery’s art, architecture and history, and are always worth repeating because there are so many interested people.
World Modernism Day
A week later, Alcoi will celebrate World Modernism Day. This will be the first time the city has joined this celebration, although it has already commemorated this day in previous years as a member of the European RANN network. During this day, the local guides will make several routes to show the modernist heritage of the city. In addition, there will be special visits to the cemetery with a modernist theme, and the historian Maria Guillem will explain how the painter Fernando Cabrera used light in his works. Lorena Zamorano highlights the importance of modernism as a tourist attraction in Alcoy and encourages everyone to discover everything the city has to offer in this area.
