The Rocket League player explains that he has not been paid for four months and has not received any support from the club
Lucas Rojo, known as Rojo, is one of the members of the Rocket League team of Barça eSports, the electronic sports section of Futbol Club Barcelona. But his experience at the club is not at all positive. On the contrary, the player has made public through Twitter his discomfort and frustration with the lack of payment and attention he receives from the club.
“I don’t know how to face this situation, I don’t know how to lead the team, I don’t know how to continue, because every day that passes is more difficult,” wrote Rojo in his message on the social network. According to his version, the club owes him four months’ salary and has not given him any explanation or solution. In addition, he assures that he has no contact with the club or any person who guides or supports him.
This situation would not be an isolated case in the world of eSports in Spain. Sources close to the club’s electronic sports section have told Nació that the workers in this department at Barça have not had any problems with their payments or their salaries either. Therefore, it would be a specific conflict with the Rocket League team, which competes in the highest European category of this video game.
Barça eSports, a bet with lights and shadows
Futbol Club Barcelona entered the world of eSports in 2019, with the intention of becoming a benchmark in this growing sector. The club created teams to compete in various video games, such as PES, Hearthstone, League of Legends or Rocket League. But the results have not always followed. The League of Legends team, for example, was eliminated in the first phase of the last edition of the European Masters, the most important tournament at continental level. The Rocket League team, meanwhile, finished fourth in the regular season, but fell in the quarterfinals of the playoffs.
In addition to the sporting results, Barça eSports has also had management and communication problems. The club does not have a dedicated website for its eSports section, nor does it have its own Twitter account. Information about teams and players is scarce and not easily accessible. And now, Rojo’s complaint highlights the precariousness and inattention suffered by some of its members.
