If the Manresa Film Office has managed to get Carles Porta to come shoot scenes for the new season of Crimes, the City Council is already delaying significantly increasing the budget for this cinematic promotional tool. It is not enough that the master’s degree in media criminology has chosen us as a set; we must enter the circle of Catalonia, which is inherently evil, scheming, conspiratorial and evil-doing, on its own merits. We have enough crime material to offer; if you want a chilling compilation of the past, our media historian, Francesc Comas, can organize a guided tour of the criminal and bloody Manresa throughout history. We also have more current and conflicting scenarios to stir social passions. How about a gang fight in a busy and glamorous place? Or perhaps an indigenous adaptation of “Narcos”, with marijuana plantations in the historic center turned into a kind of multicultural Medellín. We don’t need Hollywood stars or multi-million dollar productions, what really makes us stand out is our authenticity and our ability to portray the most disturbing characters.
