Meteorological alerts: heavy rains and snow on the horizon

Extreme weather conditions on the way

As the first week of March begins, Spain is preparing to face a turbulent weather landscape. The interaction between masses of cold and wet air is generating conditions prone to heavy rainfall, including heavy rains and snowfall in some areas.

Most affected areas: warnings for storms

Mario Picazo, a prominent meteorologist, issued a warning of the Mediterranean and southern regions of the peninsula, where adverse climatic conditions are expected. Torrential rainy orange warnings have already been activated, with a cumulative potential that could exceed 100 liters per square meter in a period of 12 hours.

Areas of maximum concern

The interior areas of Valencia, the southern coast of Tarragona and the interior of Castellón are particularly vulnerable, as Picazo emphasized. The combination of cold air and humidity activates the possibility of severe storms.

Persistent rainfall throughout the week

According to meteorology experts, the cold air approaching from the northeast will keep the atmosphere in a state of continuous activity. The rains are expected to persist, especially in the east and south of the peninsula, including the Canary Islands.

Regions with more likely to rain

The areas of Andalusia, Extremadura, Castilla-La Mancha and the Community of Madrid will be the most affected, as well as the Valencian Community and the Region of Murcia. In the north, the rainfall will be less intense, with some possibilities of scattered showers.

Snowfall to medium levels

With the arrival of these conditions, the snow has again been present in various parts of the territory, including areas that do not usually experience snowfall. The snow levels, initially between 500 and 1,000 meters, could increase during the week, with significant snowfall concentrated in the central system and the Cantabrian mountain range.

Temperatures instead

As the week progresses, a slight increase in temperatures is expected, with cities like Bilbao and Cádiz that could reach 20 degrees. However, the presence of clouds and the rains will maintain a gray atmosphere in much of the country.

An unstable panorama ahead

The week opened in front of us is expected to be charged with instability, with a significant potential of rain. Mario Picazo warns that the conditions could be really intense, although the temperatures will remain relatively soft, maintaining the snow level at high levels.

Final reflections

With the advancement of weather conditions, it is crucial to be aware of the updates and take the right precautions for safety. The inclement weather reminds us of the importance of preparation for unexpected situations.
