Meteorological changes in Catalonia: Rain and cold forecast

A new storm on the way

Meteorologist Mario Picazo has warned about the arrival of a significant change in the weather conditions of Spain, coinciding with the weekend of Carnival. The formation of a storm in the Gulf of Cádiz promises to wear heavy rains and a significant decrease in temperatures.

Impact of l’Aire Fred

According to Picazo, the interaction between the new storm and an anticyclone in the north of the country will make the cold air introduce, causing a significant decrease in thermometers. In addition, the snowfall is expected to affect the mid -altitude zones in the interior and east of the peninsula.

Forecasts for different regions

The strongest rainfall is foreseen in Andalusia, the Valencian Community and the Canary Islands, where the use of umbrellas will be necessary during the weekend.

Rain weekend

The storm will begin to take effect this Friday, with rains that will especially affect Huelva, Cádiz, Ceuta and Málaga, extending to the center and east of the country during Saturday and Sunday, with a remarkable intensity in Valencia and Alicante.

Situation in the Canary Islands

In the Canary Islands, it is expected that the rains will arrive in two waves: a less intense first today and a second larger from Sunday, coinciding with the cold air entry over the archipelago.

Possibilities of atmospheric instability

One of the highlights of the prognosis is the potential training of a Dana in the Mediterranean between Sunday and the beginning of next week. Picazo said that cold air can cause heavy rains on the east coast and the Balearic Islands, regions that urgently need these precipitation.

Risk of extreme phenomena

In addition, atmospheric activity could trigger persistent rains and even the formation of sea hoses or tornadoes in the coastal areas of Andalusia.

Temperatures in descent

Picazo has also warned that temperatures will drop considerably over the weekend. Cities like Madrid could register at around 10 degrees on Saturday and 8 degrees Sunday. In the north, localities like Leon and Burgos could see negative values.

Regional differences

On the contrary, in the south, cities like Seville and Córdoba will keep temperatures around 20 degrees during the warmer hours of the day. Thus, this year’s Carnival will be marked by a colder and rainier atmosphere, unusual for this time of year.
