Meteorological expectations: a week of changes in Spain

A start of the week with instability

The week starts with a complicated meteorological landscape in the northern part of Spain, where the presence of cold altitude air causes unstable conditions and heavy rain. Mario Picazo, an expert in meteorology, has warned that in the coming hours the rainfall is expected to be especially strong in regions such as Aragon, Navarra and Catalonia.

The anticyclone and its consequences

Despite the impact of inclement weather, the Azores anticyclone remains a dominant factor, blocking the entry of meteorological systems from the Atlantic. According to Picazo, this phenomenon causes that, despite adverse conditions, there are times of calm, especially in the rest of the peninsula.

Areas affected by rainfall

The expert has specified that, in addition to the aforementioned regions, heavy rains are expected in Galicia, the Eastern Cantabrian, the Alt Ebro and the east of Castile and León, with the possibility of local storms. In the meantime, the areas of the south and east, as well as the Canary Islands, will enjoy cleaner skies, although the largest islands will be able to experience persistent clouds.

A week of thermal contrasts

After this unstable start, Picazo said that time is gradually reassuring, although a cold front is expected to arrive on Thursday, reactivating instability. This front will lead to cold air, causing a significant decrease in temperatures in many parts of the country.

Temperature variations

The week will be characterized by a ‘roller coaster of temperatures’. On Monday, the maximum could exceed 25 degrees, with Valencia, Lleida, Murcia and Seville, exceeding even 30 degrees. However, as the week progresses, a decrease of 5 to 6 degrees is expected in cities such as Seville, Córdoba and Murcia, while in the north the temperatures will range from 15 to 20 degrees.

Looking to the future

As we approach Friday, cold air will extend south, with fresh mornings on the north platea, where the thermometers could mark 5 to 10 degrees. This week he promises to be a true evidence of the climate diversity of Spain, with a constant swing of temperatures that will keep citizens attentive to the forecasts.
