Launching of an ambitious Festival
On Thursday, March 13, Metropolitan Dance started an exciting three -week cycle dedicated to dance, covering twelve municipalities in the Barcelona Metropolitan Area. The initiative stands out for its dedication to local creation, supporting the production of nine shows that highlight Catalan talent.
Angel Duran and his new creation: ‘Monument’
The Mercat de les Flors hosted the premiere of ‘Monument’, the first collective work of the choreographer Angel Duran, which brings together five dancers on stage. This piece seeks to explore youth identity through dance, with an aesthetic that refers to subcultures as dissent vehicles.
Reflections on youth and body
Duran invites us to reflect on the representation of youth, with scenes from violence to tenderness. Dance, far from just a literal reflection, becomes a powerful vehicle of artistic expression that challenges the stereotypes associated with youth.
Stage Collective Hotel presents ‘Suite nº 4. DO Not Risurb’
The Workshop Room of the National Theater of Catalonia witnessed the second premiere, ‘Suite nº 4. DO Not Disurb’, created by the Hotel collective. This group of dancers, with a diverse career, explores the absurdity of life through a show that mixes dance and theater in an ironic tone.
A new look at dissociation: ‘You are not to ghost’
At the Youth Theater in L’Hospitalet, the duet We Are Novias presented ‘You are not a ghost’. This contemporary dance piece explores dissociation through a ghostly universe, with a minimalist aesthetic that emphasizes the individuality of each movement.
The Quebrá and the reflection on glory
Finally, at the Atrium Viladecans, the La Quebrá company premiered ‘Gloria. An Easy and Funny Work ‘. This work, with a touch of humor, raises issues on glory in the world of dance, reflecting on the expectations and reality that derives it.
A festival that promotes dance
Metropolitan dance is presented as a space of creation and reflection that seeks to expand the horizons of contemporary dance in Barcelona. With a diverse program, the festival invites the public to explore the many facets of this ephemeral art until March 30.
