Energetic reaction against the CUP
Miquel Samper, Minister of Business and Work, firmly expressed his disapproval towards the CUP and his allies, noting that his campaign against the Winter Olympics is a ‘historical error’. At a business meeting recently held in Barcelona, he criticized these groups, which he considers to be anti -system, to foster what he calls ‘phobia tourism’, an attitude that, according to him, has contributed to the loss of the Olympics organization.
Recover the Olympic candidacy
In line with the claims of President Salvador Illa, Sàmper stated his desire to reactivate the joint candidacy between Catalonia and Aragon. However, the Government’s counselor and spokesman, Sílvia Paneque, clarified that it is not a priority on the Catalan government’s agenda at present.
Projects for territorial growth
The counselor emphasized the importance of ensuring that initiatives aimed at promoting prosperity in Catalonia spread to all territories, including areas such as Aran. In addition, Sàmper mentioned the potential of Alt Urgell to become a nucleus for startups, and suggested that Andorra-La Seu Airport could be key to developing drone activities.
Catalonia, a model of business growth
The Minister’s talk was also an opportunity to highlight the positive data of the Catalan economy. According to Sàmper, Catalonia has experienced higher than in any other European region in the last year, with an increase of 3.6%, while countries such as France and Germany have grown by only 1%. In addition, Catalonia has exceeded € 1 billion in foreign investments, creating around 8,000 jobs.
Improvements in employment and unemployment
The unemployment rate in Catalonia has been 7.9%, a figure that was not seen since the crisis of 2008.Also, Catalonia has been the autonomous community with the highest employment creation in February, generating 1 in 4 new jobs at the state level.

Sàmper concluded his speech by mentioning some of the initiatives that the Government is implementing, without revealing specific details. He assured that they are clear about the way to go and that they want Catalonia to be a leader in all sectors “. As an example of this strategy, he mentioned a next trip to China to establish contacts that could be beneficial to the Catalan economy.
