Mobile desalination plants to supply municipalities on the Costa Brava Girona

The Government and the Costa Brava Girona Water Consortium (CACBG) acquire mobile desalination plants

The Government and the Costa Brava Girona Water Consortium (CACBG) have taken the decision to buy 12 mobile desalination plants to supply a dozen municipalities in the area from June. This action aims to alleviate the obstacles that the area faces in obtaining water, especially due to the drought that has left water resources at a minimum. With this investment, it is expected that approximately 35% of the area’s water demand can be covered.

Distribution of mobile desalinizers

According to the established plan, four desalination plants will be placed in Roses, four at the ETAP Empuriabrava facilities and four more at Empuriabrava beach. This will allow each municipality to have locally produced water, reducing dependence on traditional water sources.

Benefits for the area

The purchase of these mobile desalinizers represents a temporary solution to guarantee the water supply in the Costa Brava Girona area. This action will ensure continuity in the supply of water for all uses and respond to the demands of the farmers of the Muga basin, who had expressed their concern about the salinization of the aquifers.

Reaction of the president of the Generalitat

The president of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès, has expressed his support for this initiative and has highlighted the importance of the floating desalination plant installed in the Port of Barcelona. Aragonès has stated that this solution will allow more water to be obtained at a more reasonable price and will complement future investments in desalination plants in other parts of the territory.
