Mobility in Sóller: Claims Denied and Government Responses

Denial of Claims

The general management of Mobility has rejected the three requests that Sóller had made in matters of public transport.

The Government has responded to the requests sent by the councilor responsible for the area, Pep Porcel, rejecting the possibility of establishing a direct bus connection with the Joan March Hospital.

In addition, the request to restore a stop in the center of the municipality bound for Fornalutx has also been rejected.

Finally, the proposal to provide a public transport service that operates beyond midnight, especially intended for young people who wanted to return from Palma with the TIB, was rejected.

The Government Response

The Government has justified the refusal to allow the circulation of buses within Sóller by arguing that the vehicles are too wide.

Regarding the connection to the Hospital, it has been pointed out that there is already a stop in Raixa, from where you can reach Caubet, although other options are being studied to improve the connection.

Local reactions

Pep Porcel has expressed his regret at the fact that the answer has arrived six months later and, above all, at the fact that the potential benefits for Sóller have not been taken into account.

The councilor for Mobility recalls the conditions of the pact with the local PP, which include greater support from the autonomous institutions, but it seems that this is not being fulfilled.

The proposal was presented to the Government six months ago, after a meeting between the councilor and the director general of Mobility, Maria Lorena del Valle.
