An unprecedented challenge in the walnut
The small municipality of Montgai, located in the region of La Noguera, is prepared to make history with an ambitious challenge: to get a million soap bubbles float simultaneously in its sky. This initiative, which seeks to obtain the certification of the Guinness record in 2026, will begin to take shape this Sunday with the Scaffolding, an innovative activity that is part of the 16th edition of Net, the soap and natural cosmetics fair.
Preparations and experimentation
Mayor Jaume Gilabert shared that this Sunday the Montgai team will be dedicated to trying different soap formulas, with the aim of achieving more durable bubbles. In addition, mass production techniques will be explored to ensure that the municipality sky is filled with colorful bubbles at the key moment.
A necessary previous step
Gilabert emphasized that, although they will not be able to formalize the registration for this year, the day will serve to take tests that will be prepared for the record attempt the following year. ‘We will seek to make thousands of bubbles at once, but this year is just an essay,’ he said.
Technology at the service of creativity
The soap not only will be based on creativity, but will have advanced technology to calculate the amount of bubbles that are generated. Participants will receive equipment to facilitate the creation of bubbles, including waterproofs to deal with possible splashes.
A tradition that lasts
The Montgai soap Fair was born in 2008 with the intention of reviving the rich in heritage of the village, which dates back to the 19th century. In 2017, Montgai was recognized as a ‘unique village of soap’ by the Generalitat de Catalunya.
Fair distinctive features
One of the most important activities will be the demonstration of the manufacture of artisanal boiler soap, made with traditional recycled oil and techniques, by the experts of local Sabonaires.
A Natural Soap and Cosmetic Market
At the fair, visitors will discover a wide range of dressing soaps and natural cosmetics products, thanks to the participation of the Saboners Artisans Obrador of Catalonia, which will bring together more than 28 professionals with their brands.
Preparatory activities
Preceding the fair, several soap workshops have already been conducted by the Montgai soap masters. In addition, next Saturday, technical days will be held organized by the Association of Saboners of Catalonia, providing added value to the event.
