The Government of La Rioja declares two days of official mourning

The President of the Government of La Rioja, Gonzalo Capellán, has announced that the Government of La Rioja will officially declare two days of official mourning and flags at half-mast in institutional buildings for the death of the young man from Calcea Javier Márquez, whose body was located yesterday in the Ebro river in Logroño, specifically, in the area of ​​La Ribera park in the vicinity of the Riojaforum Conference Center.

Condolences and thanks to the search teams

The head of the regional Executive has conveyed to the family and friends, especially the residents of Santo Domingo, his deepest condolences for the fatal outcome of Javier’s disappearance. “The entire Riojan society has devoted itself during these days to the search for Javier and today the pain reaches us all, that is why we want to convey that feeling in the face of the tragic outcome,” he noted.

Throughout today, the Official Gazette of La Rioja will publish the Presidential Decree that will declare these two days of official mourning in our Community, which will become effective at the time of its publication, “as a sign of mourning and to convey support for family and friends of Javier Márquez,” he said.

The Government of La Rioja has also expressed its gratitude and recognition to the members of the State Security Forces and Bodies, local police, firefighters and members of civil protection who have participated in the search device during these weeks, as well as to the volunteers from Santo Domingo de la Calzada and other areas of La Rioja, who have collaborated in the device.

The Logroño City Council has also joined the official mourning decreed for the death of Javier Márquez and the Consistory flags will fly at half-mast starting at 12:00 this Thursday. In addition, the mayor, Conrado Escobar, has sent a letter to his counterpart in Santo de La Calzada to convey the city’s condolences and sadness over the tragic outcome.

For its part, the Santo Domingo de la Calzada City Council will decree three days of official mourning in memory of Javier Márquez after an extraordinary plenary session scheduled for this Thursday. The disappearance of the young man caused a great commotion in the town and mobilized neighbors who organized search raids every day in collaboration with the security forces.
