Musical Concert in Plaça Vila: An Integrative and Community Project

A Musical Encounter between two Municipal School Projects

Next Wednesday at noon, Plaça de la Vila will host the “Cordes a la Plaça” concert, a musical initiative that will bring together boys and girls from two localities. The “Cordes a primaríca” project promoted by the Sant Feliu Municipal School of Music, made up of third and fourth grade students from the Gaudí Architect School and the Falguera School, will take part in this event. The concert will be held in conjunction with the “Angels are playing” project, promoted by the Tarragona Municipal School of Music, in which boys and girls of the same age participate.

Origins and Collaboration between Music Schools

Planning for next week’s concert began last fall during a Conference on music and social transformation held by the Pau Casals Chair. The coordinator of the “Cordes a primaría” and “ConArte Internacional” project, Anna Carné, was invited to share her experiences in these community music initiatives in schools. From this meeting, the two schools have been working on a common repertoire for next Wednesday’s concert, in which they will perform traditional Catalan songs.

Participation of Sant Feliu in the Integrator Concert

The fourth grade students of “Cordes de primárica” of Sant Feliu will also participate in the concert to perform a piece composed by the cello teacher of the Municipal Music School of Sant Feliu, Anna Carné. The piece is inspired by the Falguera school’s theme for the year, and according to the coordinator, the students will perform a composition that includes technical aspects they have learned in class.

MusiCal cooperation between cities

Anna Carné emphasizes that this will be the first time that the violin and cello students of the Sant Feliu project will perform with a school outside the city. For this reason, in addition to third and fourth grade students, fourth grade boys and girls from local schools will also join so that they can enjoy and participate in the initiative. The coordinator highlights the work of the “Cordes a primaría” project: “a project implemented by the Municipal School of Music applied to two public schools during school hours”.

The “Cordes a Primària” Project: Promotion of Music in Sant Feliu

In 2016, the Municipal School of Music conducted a survey among students who wanted to enroll at the center. The results showed that students from the Gaudí Architect School and the Falguera School had shown less interest in studying music. Based on this situation, the “Cordes a primaría” project was launched with the aim of promoting musical education and facilitating instrumental group practice.

Promotion of Artistic Education and Democratization of Musical Education

The sessions of this project take place during school hours for the third and fourth grade students of these centers, with the aim of providing a musical experience that improves their academic performance. Since the beginning of the project, the students have performed concerts at Christmas and at the end of the year, as well as taking part in meetings between the two schools.

Collaboration and Positive Impact in Sant Feliu

One of the main objectives of this project is the reduction of cultural barriers and the promotion of access to education and artistic experience. The sessions are jointly planned by teachers specialized in music from primary schools who work in team with the teachers of the Municipal School of Music. The “Cordes a primaría” project seeks to improve the school environment, as well as increase learning abilities and the demand for musical studies in Sant Feliu.
