According to the leading online booking portal Skyscanner, music tourism, also known as Gig tripping, is emerging as one of the most important travel experiences this year.
The Connection Between Music and Travel
Skyscanner’s latest Travel Trends report reveals that a significant proportion of Spanish travelers are willing to take both short and long flights to attend concerts. Approximately half of Spanish travelers (48%) would consider taking a short flight to see their favorite artist live, while 13% would be willing to do so even on long-haul flights. This trend is not only present in younger travelers, but also extends to 42% of Spaniards who plan to attend a concert or festival in 2024, a figure that increases to 58% in the case of young people aged 18 to 24 years
Featured Destinations for Musical Tourism
In partnership with events app DIU, Skyscanner has identified several global destinations that stand out as music tourism hotspots. Some of these destinations include Ibiza, known for its colossal nightclubs and seaside parties; the north of England, with the energy of the big night clubs in Manchester and the emerging scene in Leeds; San Francisco, with classic establishments and first class discos; Barcelona, which hosts the renowned Primavera Sound and Sónar; and Nashville, capital of Tennessee, known for its rich music scene that embraces a wide variety of genres including country, bluegrass, rock, pop, Americana, gospel, classical, jazz and blues.
