New complications in public transport due to adaptation works on Rodalies lines

Impact of the works on public transport

Public transport users will face new complications due to the adaptation works that will be carried out on the Rodalies lines R4 and R8. These works, scheduled for the summer, will affect specific sections and will have a considerable duration, from June 24 to September 11.

During the first phase, which will cover from Castellbisbal to Molins de Rei (R4) and between Martorell Central and Rubí Can Vallhonrat (R8), alternative measures will be implemented to guarantee passenger mobility. This will include a road transport plan presented by Renfe to cover the affected routes.

At this stage, buses will be available that will maintain the usual train frequency and stop at all stations. However, restrictions will be established on the buses, since access with bicycles or pets will not be allowed, although they will be adapted for people with reduced mobility. A fleet of 25 buses is expected to make around 200 trips per day in each direction.

These works are part of the renovations that Adif is carrying out for the development of the Mediterranean corridor in Catalonia, with the aim of establishing a railway connection with Europe. The project includes the remodeling of the Castellbisbal station and its links to the railway junction of Mollet, Barcelona, and the Port of Barcelona, as part of the Mediterranean corridor that seeks to link via train from Algeciras to Figueres, and from there to connect with southern Europe to Hungary.

Strike in Renfe on June 14

In addition to the complications arising from the works, the Railway Union (SF) has called a 24-hour strike for next June 14 in all Renfe workshops. This call aims to report the lack of staff, spare parts, tools, and the state of the facilities, as well as the outsourcing of workloads.

The union also points out deficiencies in the facilities that put the physical integrity of workers at risk, which has an impact on train breakdowns, delays and suspensions of service. Likewise, they call on railway users to support this strike, calling for protest rallies at various stations.
