Vital help for the long-term unemployed
The State Public Employment Service (SEPE) has announced a new initiative aimed at providing financial support of 2,880 euros to those who have exhausted other unemployment benefits. This benefit, which will be available until November 1, 2024, aims to help people who are in a situation of occupational and economic vulnerability.
What is the Extraordinary Unemployment Benefit (SED)?
The Extraordinary Unemployment Benefit (SED) is presented as a non-contributory solution designed for those who can no longer access regular unemployment benefits. This aid is distributed in monthly installments of 480 euros for a maximum period of six months, accumulating a total of 2,880 euros. The uniqueness of this allowance is that it can only be applied for once in a lifetime, making it an essential resource for those who have run out of support.
Who can benefit from this help?
The SED is mainly aimed at those people who have been unemployed for an extended period. To access this benefit, applicants must demonstrate that they have been registered as jobseekers for at least 360 days in the last 18 months and that they have exhausted other benefits, such as Active Income (RAI).
Conditions for requesting the SED
To be eligible for the SED, a number of important requirements must be met:
Eligibility criteria
– Having used up contributory benefits and other subsidies, including the RAI and requalification programs such as PRODI or PREPARA.
– Being long-term unemployed, with at least one year of registration as a job seeker during the previous 18 months.
– Do not exceed 75% of the Interprofessional Minimum Wage (SMI), which is currently 1,080 euros, which means that monthly income cannot exceed 810 euros.
– Not having previously received the SED, as this aid is granted only once.
– Commit to participate actively in the job search.
How to make the request?
The SED application can be made both in person at the SEPE offices and electronically through its electronic portal. In both cases, it is essential to present the necessary documentation, which includes the application form and the activity agreement. If you decide to do the procedure in person, it is advisable to make an appointment in advance.
