New Energy Transition Office in Reus: a step forward toward sustainability

A new chapter in the energy transition

The Reus Chamber of Commerce has recently obtained the approval of the Catalan Institute of Energy (ICAEN) to establish a Business Energy Transition Office (OETE). After a provisional resolution the previous year, this project has become a definitive reality, with the aim of intensifying its activities in the next two years.

Experience and resources for sustainability

With a solid basis of knowledge accumulated in energy transition, the Chamber of Commerce is well positioned to support local companies. The initiative, which has a budget of 220,000 euros, includes a subsidy of 200,000 euros that will facilitate its implementation.

Clear objectives for companies

The main purpose is to increase the sustainability and competitiveness of companies of various dimensions within the regions of their jurisdiction, which include Baix Camp, Conca de Barberà, Priorat, Ribera d’Ebre and Terra Alta. In addition, the Reus Chamber has pledged to collaborate with the Chamber of Valls to extend its impact.

A renewable energy model

In order to promote a more efficient and sustainable energy model, the OETE will be integrated into an ecosystem that seeks to transform the energy practices of companies. Of the 13 chambers operating in Catalonia, only 7 have implemented energy transition offices, which positions the Reus Chamber as a pioneer in this area.

A specialized team

To advance this process, the chamber incorporated an expert energy transition technician, who will lead the OETE initiatives. This strategic decision has been essential to address current energy challenges.

Oete action areas

The OETE will focus on four main lines of action: renewable energy generation and storage, energy community creation, energy efficiency and electric mobility. These areas will translate into specific programs designed for small and medium -sized businesses, which constitute 90% of the local business fabric.

Surpassing barriers

The Office will seek to eliminate access to financing and improve the long -term strategic vision of companies, providing technical advice and support to validate energy projects and address doubts during the implementation process.

Collaboration and diagnosis

In addition, the Chamber will make diagnoses to identify the energy needs of companies, including the revision of energy invoices and the adequacy of the contracted power. It will also foster collaboration with other energy transition offices and local entities.

Interest Local

The Chamber has expressed its availability to help all the councils in its area, highlighting the sensitivity of local governments to the energy transition. Jaume Llosas, director-manager of the Chamber, emphasizes that many corporations do not have specialized profiles to address these issues.

A vision of the future

With the OETE already official, the House plans to establish synergies with entities such as Reus Energia and to start a collaborative path with local companies and industrial estates. This initiative seeks to accelerate the energy transition, aligning with the sustainability objectives of Catalonia by 2030.

Economic context and challenges

Currently, the development of photovoltaic projects has experienced a certain calm, but the Chamber warns that Catalonia must comply with its sustainability commitments. Dependence on renewable energy sources is essential, and the ability to generate energy autonomously can minimize risks in times of economic uncertainty.

Nuclear transitional fund

Last year, the Chamber gained recognition to participate in the nuclear transitional fund, which will allow it technically to accelerate business projects in the affected areas. This fund is key to fostering a more diversified and sustainable productive fabric.

The OETE, therefore, undertakes to support projects within the framework of the nuclear transition fund, hoping that this support will generate positive synergies for the business community.
