Start of Vaccination: A Necessary Step
The Penedès Health Region has launched its flu and COVID-19 vaccination campaign, aimed especially at elderly people and those with delicate health conditions. This initiative is essential to protect public health, especially at a time when respiratory viruses tend to proliferate.
Priority Groups: Who Should Be Vaccinated
The vaccination program focuses on individuals between 60 and 80 years of age, as well as those under 60 who present risk conditions, such as chronic diseases or obesity. In addition, health professionals and children aged between 6 months and 5 years are included, who will only receive the flu vaccine.
Public Health Objectives
The main objective of this campaign is to reduce the complications that can arise from these diseases, which are more common during the cold months. The data show that in Catalonia, vaccines prevent more than 34,000 cases of serious diseases annually.
Data from the Vaccination Campaign
In total, 201,114 doses have been mobilized for the flu and 179,937 for COVID-19 in the Region. The campaign began with priority for residents in geriatric centers, who have already started receiving the vaccines.
Additional Dose and News
For the current season, Catalonia has acquired 1,768,000 doses of flu vaccines, an amount higher than previous campaigns. Among this year’s novelties, the use of intranasal vaccines for children under 5 years stands out.
How to Access Vaccination
People residing in institutions will receive the vaccine at their facility. For the rest of the population, vaccines can be obtained through primary care centers with prior appointment. In addition, two vaccination points have been enabled in the Penedès Health Region to facilitate access.
Vaccination Points and Schedules
Vaccination points are located in Vilafranca del Penedès and Vendrell. In Vilafranca, you can get vaccinated at CAP Vilafranca Nord, while in Vendrell, vaccines are administered at CAP El Vendrell. Both centers offer walk-in hours on certain dates.
Final Reflections and the Future of Vaccination
As the campaign progresses, health authorities will continue to work to achieve high vaccination coverage, prioritizing the health of the most vulnerable populations. Citizen collaboration will be key to face the arrival of autumn as safely as possible.
