A new horizon for emerging theater
This Thursday the registration period for the ‘premiere in the territory’ program began, an initiative designed to promote theater among emerging companies. This action is the result of the collaboration between the Aurora Theater, the Casa del Teatre Nu, and several rooms such as the Mercantil de Balaguer and La Planeta de Girona, all committed to the theatrical scene outside Barcelona.
Clear goals for a diverse theater
The Association of Theater Companies of Catalonia (ADETCA) has launched this initiative to integrate new companies into the Catalan theater world, with the intention of fostering creativity and decentralizing productions. ‘Premiere in the territory’ is part of a wider plan to revitalize theater in Catalonia during the period 2023-2026.
Requirements for participating companies
The companies that want to participate must be Catalan and have their fiscal headquarters in Catalonia. They will be able to present unpublished shows in any stage language, with a maximum of six works premiered above. The proposals must be as a small or medium format, with the Catalan language as the main language.
Tutoring and professional support
One of the novelties of this year is that five proposals will be chosen, one for each room, which will be monitored to companies in different stages of creation. This includes advice on business management, technical production, communication and distribution.
Artistic residences and exhibition opportunities
The selected companies will enjoy 10 -day art residences in each room and a technical residence of 3 days to prepare for the premiere. In addition, they will have the opportunity to exhibit their work in four of the five participating rooms, with one of the companies chosen to participate in the ‘RBLS bet’ section of the RBLS festival.
Key dates and selection process
Interested companies have time until March 9 to submit their proposals. After that date, a commission made up of representatives of the rooms will evaluate projects based on their contemporaneity, innovation, quality of the content, format and dramaturgy, as well as gender parity and accessibility.
The future of Catalan theater in the hands of young talents
The names of the five selected companies will be made public during the first fortnight of April, marking a new chapter in the commitment to a diverse and accessible theater that represents the cultural richness of Catalonia.
