Peasants and Farmers Prepare a Historic Protest at the Borders of Spain and France

An Unprecedented Protest

The agricultural sector is at war due to the structural crisis affecting the countryside. Farmers and farmers have announced that they will cut off all borders with France next June 3 in a protest that they describe as historic and unprecedented. This action, which has the support of fifteen agricultural associations from Catalonia and other regions of Spain, will be carried out at various points on the border between the two countries.

Objectives and Claims

The spokesman for Revolta Pagesa, Arnau Rubio, explained that the aim of this protest is to press ahead of the next European elections to achieve greater food security. Among the demands are the so-called ‘mirror clauses’, which require that any product imported from outside the EU has been subjected to the same production standards as local products, as well as local product preference laws and the elimination of taxes to energy applied to agricultural producers.

Participation and Support

Farmers and ranchers from Catalonia, Spain and France are called to participate in this protest, as well as associations, cooperatives, unions, companies and consumers interested in joining. Protesters will be allowed to disrupt traffic for 24 hours starting at 10:00 a.m. on June 3.

Joint Actions and Dialogue

Arnau Rubio has expressed the will to seek a constructive dialogue, but has made it clear that the mobilization has already been called and will not stop until the demands are met. In addition, twenty associations from all over Catalonia, Spain and France have joined this call to protest.
